Canon 400 f/5.6 availability

I have a friend that's interested the 400 f/5.6 but availability seems limited at this time. Is this a recent issue or have they not been available for some time?

If I remember correctly, they were not available last April during the spring migration. Just wondered if they became available between April and now and just sold out again?

Any information would be appreciated.

I've never noticed a shortage of this lens before. Who knows, maybe Canon is finally releasing an IS version.

Interesting....this is the second Canon item that you've noticed out of stock at most places. Now that the rebates ended this past Sunday, I don't know what was and wasn't on the list but....I'm wondering if they were and that they may have sold out due to last minute buying decisions. I'd give anything for a 400mm IS version or even a better designed 100-400mm....or a 200-400mm. I'm not going to hold my breath for any of those.

I think many of us share your wish list for those lens. If any of those came available, we would like be waiting in long lines to obtain one. Looks like Canon would know that.

BTW - I did get the extension tubes from Mike G. Thanks for your heads-up on that one.
