    Cool - D700 is arriving tomorrow - the wifes birthday present - means I ll get my D3 back fulltime.

    I see, down under you get the D700 before we (the US) do!
    Good for you. I am looking forward to seeing the images.

    I personally think it would be very "husbandly" of you to open it and check to make sure that it was working properly. Besides.....I'm so interested in this camera that I can't see straight. I really want to know what the actual photographers think......not speculation. Open it!!!

    Lana - I OPENED IT! - I use the D3 so my comments are based on a comparison to the D3.

    Smaller not as heavy, LCD cover, Menus are very familiar - Sensor cleaning at startup/shutdown or both.
    I could happily use it without to many worries at all.

    I like it.

    You are a good man......so thoughtful to check it out. ;) Thanks for your initial feelings. What's killing me is Canon's wait on releasing a 5D replacement. I hate to use 2 systems but there's something so enticing about the D700. I think it would be great for macro work, everyday camera school, occasional weddings of friends/family with the candids, etc.
