Followed the enraged calls of the Robins as they mobbed this immature Great Horned Owl. This shot taken just before sunset in available light with no flash.

Hi Steve. It looks like you had some difficult lighting. The bright BG detracts from the nice subject. Maybe try to tone down the BG and put the owl to the right of the frame, so he has somewhere to look. Owls are most difficult to get right, lighting wise, I know.
Hi Nancy,
Thanks for your comment. Don't know what I was thinking of as regards positioning. I think I was originally trying to preserve that interesting swoop in the branch at the right hand side. I have some room to play with so I will take your advice and move the owl around a bit and see if it makes any difference. Always seem to have trouble with lighting on owls. Guess the best time to get them would be on a cloudy day with more even light. It's been sunny for weeks up here in western Canada and harsh shadows have also been a problem.
Great find and pose. I agree that if it is not full frame it would work better if the bird were further to the right in the frame and you could try to tone down the highlights in the BG. Thanks for sharing!
I like the high key look and do not mind the BKGR. Reframing left would likely have been the best course.

I like the re-post, but there is something to be said for the swoopy branch...
