Joan, I really like this birds. I like your details in the white area, but on my monitor the back looks too hot. i like how the wind is moving the feathers a bit, that adds some interest too. I'd like to see the eye and beak adjusted a bit more to make them "pop" more. nice background, and it would be easy to create more canvas on the right.

Hi Joan !!! Nice looking egret !!!

Great points by Cheryl First thing I would do is move the birds from the center of the frame and give more room to the right as suggested. Always want more room for the bird to look into to. This will also place the eye in a more favorable position, close to the the intercepting third !!!

Would also try lining up with sun able so it comes from your back and illuminate the bird, for these soft light is a necessity. Would also back down the usm a bit

Will do the changes suggested by Cheryl to the canvas and eyes ... let us know what you think !!! btw would also have tried to lower/raise the camera so the head wouldn't intersect the tree line and also tried for a little head turn.

I agree with Cheryl, but also maybe crop some off the left side.

don't know how to add canvas yet. like what you did. original did have trees above the head, cropped it out, will send.
what is USM. I know about light from the back, but there we were and there was the bird.

i really like al's repost!! and good to have him back, btw!!! cropping out the structure behind the bird was key..along with having some space in front. i think you did real well here considering the light was coming from behind. usually an image killer!

I think this is very well done with quite harsh light. You can still see details in the white feathers of the head and neck and the eye is razor sharp. Thanks for posting.
