    Default Long Shot? Or Portrait?

Ok - so yes, It's kind of intimidating posting images from Galapagos realizing Artie just went there too.... I didn't see the marine iquanas with the salt crystals on their heads. That was very cool, Artie! We did see marine iguanas also - however this is a land iguana. They evidently live to be about 75 years old. What a life! From the expression on his face, he does seem to have it all figured out, doesn't he?

I have this long shot that includes his tail - because it was just amazing! I also have a tight shot that shows the details of his face. Can I post them both in the same thread?

Here is the portrait - I'll try to post it too.

Both images were shot with my Nikon D80, 70-300 VR lens. The focal length on the long shot above was 112mm, and this portrait was 300mm.

I will admit a silly "mistake": I still had my camera settings set for early mornings on the river under the tree canopy - so ISO 800.... oops

This one is 1/250 sec, f/20. If I'd been thinking, I would have opened the lens up to blur the background more.... But check out the grasshopper over his left shoulder. I wanted him too - but couldn't hand-hold the lens at 300mm with a slower shutter speed (even with VR).... Considering the grasshopper didn't really get in focus, I guess I coulda woulda shoulda opted to blur the background....

    Thanks for your responses....

    Hi Amy,

We dont allow 2 images in one thread unless it is a repost. You should start a new thread. I really like the images.

The subject is great and I love the pose and the fact that you were able to show the entire tail is a big plus. I would tend to give the guy more room in the frame, the crop for me is a bit confined. But I know at this small size you dont want to make the subject smaller.

Two quick fixes to make the image better, eliminate the guano in the BG and second I would selectively darken the face even out the tones.

Thanks Robert. I figured it wouldn't let me if I couldn't - but now that I know, I will make sure and do a 2nd thread in the future. I guess there's nothing I can do about this one now?

Thanks for the comments, Robert. I do have more room in the frame on both ends as well as top and bottom. I did crop in more before I posted. I will work on the guano! THEN, I can repost - right?

    :)

    Thanks,
    Amy D.

Ok - I am RE posting after taking care of the guano, and burning in the highlights and mid-tones a little on the face.... The burning I'm not so used to doing, so let me know how I did.

As for the crop - I'd forgotten that I don't have much more room in the top-right corner because someone was standing there, and their shoe is in the frame. I tried adding foreground, and to the left and right, but then it looked like the ceiling was too low....

So, same crop - with Robert's suggestions.

    Amy,

The last image works for me. If you are going to manipulate the image in PS I would loose the dark area just above the head.

    Best,

    Chas
