This is another image made on Machias Island last weekend. This Puffin came very close to the blind. Cropped from vertical.

I can tell you one thing, the eye details and the beak are extremely well imaged. i wish the head was turned just a hair more to the screen right to eliminate the small amount of white where the eye would be, but a minor nit. A very decent background considering Machias Seal Island.

A side note here: I recieved an e-mail from the Norton family. They were glad we remembered them in a tribute on BPN. They also wanted me to pass on that they are in business still and the daughter is going to keep the show running. Thanks Axel for sharing this fine image.

    Hi Axel!

Wow! Another beauty! Fantastic detail and exposure. The smooth green background complements the reds. Let's see, you are at 1/4000 ... so for your next post I am expecting to see a spectacular BIF!!!!

Quite excellent in not the greatest light. I like the SQ crop and the great image optimization skills.

A wonderful portrait Axel - I like the composition and detail about the face. One minor comment is that the blacks on the right neck below the yellow gape appear to be a bit speckled - like can occur when lightening shadowed areas.

Well done Axel. Excellent color, detail, and clarity. Agree with Grady's observation on the opposite eye.

Hey Axel, great image with very good details, colors and textures, I am not a big fan of the SQ compos. but this one works fine.

Thanks, Doug! There are two tour operators near Machias in Cutler and Jonesport. On the island there are razorbills, murres and puffins during their nesting period before going back to the open sea sometime in August if I remember correctly.
