Question: I this too centered. The body of the bird is centered but the tail is almost touching the right frame and there is some space to the left of the head and breast. Should I have backed off a little? Opinions welcomed. Thanks for looking.
Hi Dave,
You have two options here; you can do it vertical or keep the same composition and crop the left side of the frame and add canvas to the right side in order to off set the bird. The eye is out of focus...
hi Dave,
i am a big fan of yours. i know we don't like to give away techniques that make us better than the rest, but, do you have to extract your subject and then put it over a solid background in order to get the look that you have here?

I like the bird. Wish they didn't land on metal fence posts so often (smile)
I agree the composition can be improved. Maybe it is just a bit too tight overall?
On my monitor, the edge of the bird is outlined with a thin dark line that looks unnatural somehow. I'm going the other way from the other comments. I suspect your bird might be a tad over-sharpened. The eye looks about the same in the original and the re-post, and doesn't seem oof here. Maybe back off the whole bird a bit and selectively sharpen the eye?
