    Hello Everyone,
I took this at St Pete's Beach in March during my last visit to Florida - there was a thunderstorm brewing!
    400D 100-400 @ 400
    ISO 200
    AV F5.6 1/60 sec
Desaturated and tweaked in PS elements 6
Sharpened, but not particularly happy with the result - when I sharpened more I got noise. Any suggestions??
    Many thanks!
    Nicki

you can selectively sharpen the bird only to reduce noise in the bg. darker areas tend to show noise a lot quicker than the lighter ones. i like the b&w treatment here and really dont mind noise as much in those than with color images!!

Great portrait Nicki. Like the effects subdue effects very much. BTW, had my eyes checked today and you guessed it, I need new prescriptions. Maybe my pics will be a little better focused

    Hi Nicki,
I like the composition and tight crop factor, also like the mood and feel of the image. My only recommendation would be to sharpen the eye...

Hi Nikki, I really like what you did with this. I hope you don't mind, I ran it through Neat Image in Photoshop to take out some of the noise. What do you think?

Hi guys, thanks so much for the help and comments.
Uncle Gus, it looks a lot better now - can you tell me how you do your sharpening??
Lisa, I like what you did too - do you know if Neat Image is available in PS elements 6??
    Regards, Nicki

    Hi Nicki:

Sharpening is like religion, what you personally like & what works for you. I like Arthur Morris's multiple passes (If necessary after first pass) in USM, and Fabs Forms, Lab Mode & Smart Sharpen both in the Educational Resources Forum. Think Arthur's "Why Don't my Pictures Look Like this" in Educational Resources Forum the 101 of Nature photography, http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...ead.php?t=5596
and agree with Scott Kelby that "Noiseware Pro" is the best Noise program. Have noticed in posts that a lot of folks use & like Fred Miranda's sharpening plug-in & Noise Ninja, and do so with spectacular success.

BPN is far and above the best tool you have for the money with Good photographers and Pros dispensing great C & C's along with how to do it advice.

    Simplicity is Akin to Elegance

    Nikki,
Sorry for the delay in responding. Neat Image can be used as a plug-in to PS Elements 6. See the website:
http://www.neatimage.com I use it as the last step prior to uploading my file.
