Well, that must be an awkward time in a penguin's life. Looks like he's wearing a shawl. I like the nice environmental BG and details.

With all the schmutz on the ground and assuming a pretty tame subject an option would have been to get lower with a longer lens and create a much tighter image of the head and the molting feathers. The closed eye and the way busy BGKR do not work for me.

I've never seen this species in the wild, is this a juvenile or regular molting? I like the closed eye and setting.

I love the cloak effect of the fur on the back. It really makes the title come alive. The facing away pose makes it appear the king is too goog to see his subjects, a real plus for emotional impact. I can see Art's side of the busy background. It can go either way there. I like it for the above reasons. Perhaps just a tad taken off of the top to rid the small oof bushes.

Wow what a cool capture Chas. I have never seen this molting time in a penguins life so I am fascinated. Love the surrounding environment too. thanks for sharing this lovely capture.

Hey I think I saw that guy on 42nd st... The closed eye and head position seem very serene to me.. like sort of AH.. that feels good to get off.

    Hey Artie,

Got a few tight head shots as well, but you probably knew that. As for the "busy background" I think it greatly compliments the disheveled look of the bird, and helps tell the overall molting story.

It would be a boring world if we all saw it the same way ;)

    Warmest Regards,

    Chas

really a very nice image as it stands, including the eyes closed. I like seeing the entire subject, but would also love to see some tight portraits too, and will look forward to that.
