    Default The Mighty Beak

The largest and loudest of the kingfishers we have here with a beak to match.

Stork Billed Kingfisher on a banana tree

    D300, AFS 600mm f4 with a 1.4X TC on a Kirk Window Mount
1/40s f/7.1 at 850.0mm ISO 1600 (it was last light and failing fast)

    C&C quite welcome!

Edited : reposted image with lower colour saturation.

Beautiful bird, great eye contact and details. I wish he picked a prettier leaf to sit on. Maybe a bit more room top and bottom. Keep them coming!

As soon as I looked at this I saw that the oranges and reds (bill and feet) were detailless, ie, over-exposed. I brought the image into Photoshop and saw all the clipping. (See same on the right side of the histogram.

Chien, you need to go back, desaturate the reds and yellows, and then re-post. You need to learn to make your Levels adjustments while holding down the ALT key... I humbly and strongly advise that you get a copy or either our Digital Basics File or of ABP II.

Great bird, wonderful COMP, and fairly distracting BKGR.

Thanks a lot for the very useful feedback, Mr Morris. I applied a slight dose of digital velvia over the original (which was already on the warm side with the red spectrum on the verge of being overblown) on an uncalibrated monitor . I know, I know...fatal operator error! Guilty as charged!

I have reposted a (hopefully improved version) minus the added velvia-like saturation.

The repost looks much better but it would have been good to keep the original so others can see what you changed.
