I finally had a chance to head out on the boat with Dad and create a few images. We had a really good morning. The light is getting harsh very fast in our area (around 8:30AM), so we were happy to have some cloud cover to extend our morning in the field. I'm always amazed by the natural camouflage of beach-born baby birds, and that's what I was interested in capturing here. If it weren't for his eye, beak, and legs, he'd be a perfect match!

    Shooting Solution
    Nikon D300 | Nikon 600 f/4 + 1.4X TC (850mm) | Gitzo 1410 legs with Wimberely II head
    Manual Exposure | 1/800th @ f/6.3 | ISO 400 | Full Frame

    Thanks for looking!

Comments welcome and much appreciated :)

This is beautiful. Your point on having a vision about what you hope to create prior to a session is well taken. Great work.

Wonderful image Blake and you are so right nature has really protected it's young. Love how you captured this with excellent color and detail. It really tells a story.

Blake the colors are just wonderful. The cuteness factor is off the scale!! Love the beak open. I hope to get out with your Dad sometime next month!

Great angle, details, soft light and the open bill adds to it. What kind of tern is this?

Well conceived, well executed. Perfect EXP and head angle. Wish that the beach behind the chick had been seaweed-less...

Awesome capture Blake. If it was not for the shallow DOF, this chick would be almost invisible. Nice separation.
    Thanks for sharing. :)

This to me is a nice example of the camo look, as you pointed out. Very well captured, as always Blake.
