    Default Grasshopper Sparrow

From a session a few weeks back. My initial reaction to the blade of grass was not a very positive one, but I have since come to like it. Audio used to call the bird onto the perch.

    Canon 40D + 100-400L @340mm, manual, 1/1000s., f/7.1, ISO 400, no EC (metered off BG grasses), natural light, handheld, about 85% full-frame.

Love the purple flowers in the BG, but the blade of grass doesn't work for me Daniel. The rest of the BG looks like an impressionist painting. Bird looks good with a nice singing pose. I might remove the twig partially obstructing the tail feathers too. Overall, I like it a lot.

These are the shots I love to try to capture -this is great -I like a lot. Doug is right the blade has to go.

Such a nice singing pose on this desirable species. Love the bg, would love it more were the blade of grass not a part of it.

Great work, Daniel! Very sharp and I like the light. I like the blade of grass as well, but I think it would have been better if it were just a bit more left of your subject (to clear the tail). Love the splash of purple in the corner.

Quite lovely as is. I am all for making the blade of grass and the twig that blocks the tail disappear. IAC, recomposing two inches to the right if possible would have been a huge plus: you could likely have gotten all of the flowers into the frame and there would have been better COMP balance. In addition, a good deal of the dead space behind the bird would have been eliminated. Love the singing pose.
