I think that if the plant matter had been further away from the bird, I would have liked it actually, As it is so close, it does detract a tad to my eyes.
Mike, I really like this image. I've noticed throughout your images that you like to include a bit of flora along with your fauna, and that's commendable. I like the splash of green. My only thought was that the placement of the green could be better. I know there's most likely nothing that you could have done about this, but just as an example to others I've attached what (in my opinion) would have been ideal. I like the out of the box composition and the background. Great work.
Blake beat me to the punch... Moving the green even a bit more to the right, to the top of the little hill,might have yielded a bit better compostional balance. BTW, the ORIG post is sweet, esp. the light.
