Default Puffin Colony in Northern California

I have heard rumours over the years that there is a small Puffin colony somewhere on the North Coast of California near Mendocino. Is there any truth to this? If so any info would be appreciated.

    Hi Chris
I looked in a Stokes and a National Geo bird book and both of them show Tufted Puffins in northern Cal.

Chris, Tufted Puffins nest on the Farallone Islands, and can be seen from pelagic birding boats. Horned Puffins are now showing up along the coast (Bodega Head) but these birds are post breeding, No colony that I know of. Dan Brown

I checked a few local birders forums for Mendocino County and discovered that there is one possible nesting pair of tufted Puffins out on the Mendocino Headlands. I went out there and checked and didn't see them. I talked to some local birders and a few said they had seen them. The location is waaaay out of camera range. There is a small colony that nests near trinidad. Though that's a pretty long trip from where I am in willits.
