Taken in the morning light in Juru, Penang. Not your regular rule-of-the-thumb lighting.
It was difficult enough to get close without spooking the bird hence I grabbed the shot
when the chance came. Bit of a shame there was no eye contact here.

    HI Phil,

Very nice colors and back lit. I wish for more eye contact but you did well with the composition and sharpens on this one.

Maxis already mentioned the head-turn/eye contact, but you know it. Sometimes it's better to grab an image until next time. Very nice species; hopefully you will come across them with better light angle and/or fill flash capability. :)

Really like the comp and colors. Agree about the eye contact.

I agree about eye contact and head turn. The light is fantastic and very good BG.

Great find and BG. Adding to the other comments, it might benefit from a slightly higher color temperature as the whites have a slight blue cast.

Very colorful bird! as mentioned above the head turn would make this one better, but come on, the colors, BG and perch makes up for the rest.

There is a difference between eye contact and head angle. The eye contact with this image is fine--it is the head angle that is the problem. Sweet bird, nice visible eye, nice perch and BKGR, and fine COMP. And yes to the blue cast in the white neck.
