Wonderful colors, great details in the head and feathers and really sweet background.

Why is the catch light in the bottom of the eye, is the birds head tilted away from you or is there a reflection of the sun coming from below ?

    Good question, and observation!!!!

The sun is directly on the horizon and the head is tilted up. No flash was used.

    Hi Chas,

Lovely light and behavior but this is too tight for my taste.

Fantastic pose, he looks mean and angelic at the same time. We are back at Newfi, got a permit to Gull Island.

I know it's tight, but that is part of the allure of the image, a compositional statement., I try to picture with more room up and right and it may not be as bold.

Glad you had a grea time in Iceland, maybe one day...

Great light, pose and details. Gotta love those long northern summer days.
