Here's another shot of the grumpy gull. As with the first photo, this was a close-in image, and I probably should have zoomed out a but to add more space. I masked off the local contrast so the belly doesn't look so crunchy.
Canon R7 with Sigma 150-600C, 1/400", f/6.3, ISO 2000, FL 403mm, EV +0. Denoised on ON1 and edited on Darktable for color, tone, sharpening and retouch.
A bit tight in the frame for me, and I would have preferred the orange background to extend all the way to the bottom (but getting lower to achieve that would have hidden the feet), but I like the details and plumage of this non-breeding RBG. Often overlooked, but so fun to photograph!
Did you happen to shoot any in the landscape format. Wonder if that would have let you de-emphasize the perch and give you more of that orange BG.
Giving the bird negative space to look into in a landscape mode might be a crop option worth trying, if you have it. If you do, I'd include some more space at the top, and at the left, but mostly add to the right.
