Not quite what I am aiming for but getting a little closer. I was struggling for light often shooting at ISO 12800 which is a bit high really for my equipment, nevertheless Adobe and DxO did some pretty fair work for me.
I was pushing it a bit with that SS but I think it's not too bad. I will return hopefully when there is a good sunrise and they will be lekking out in the open in full light....and closer...without obscuring grasses and I will have ISO 800.....living the dream!
I added an additional 1.4TC to the inbuilt 1.25TC to extend the focal length.

    OM-1, 150-400TC & MC14
    Focal Length (35 mm conversion) : 1402.0mm
    Exposure mode : Manual exposure
    ISO : 3200
    Exposure compensation : -0.7 EV
    Shutter : 1/1250 sec
    Aperture : F8

Hi Jon, nice behavioural aspect and I like the setting, some may prefer less clutter and more of the birds, but this illustrates very well the habitat they live and fight in.

Overall I think the saturation is pushed a bit and the whites need addressing, need a bit more Blue & Magenta, then adjust to taste, -5/+17 gives me a 243 RGB value, good enough. Personally the darks and shadows could do with a tweak, creating more detail overall, you are still hiding a lot within the capture, colour somewhere between the two IMHO, Im not interested in that, just trying to get more from your capture.

Sharpening doesn't look too clean but... yes a bit more SS, but appreciate the kit starts to get a tad sensitive over 3200+

Hi Jon, Neither version works for me for many reasons: off-angled light, black and white subjects in bright sun, intersecting grasses and ugly background, and very poor subjects to imaging sensor orientation.

Hi Jon ... i do fully understand your posting , I like it in general as it is good to see different species at times .
The setting and other things might be not ideal ( as per Arthur ) .... for me it is still an interesting behavior shot . We can always get better shots at times ...
I would rather prefer the OP compared to the RP ... albeit it might have some tonal issues .
The RP is not my taste on the color front and the added FG is not really looking great

Thanks Artie and Andreas, I appreciated the compositional shortcomings, I posted to receive feedback on the processing.
