Default Little Owl XII ( juv)

Hi folks .... LO endless from my side .
Again an image back from the " beginning " with them and it is quite an unusual behavior shot for me .... not sure if it has been documented before ???!!! Steve might know more about .

Owlets pretty small at that time and hunkering in the pile of wooden boards and other parts of teared down little house as you can see in the image . Image was taken very late in the evening ... just saw an adult flying in with something red in the beak , was hoping the adult was bringing a bloody mouse . After some minutes of waiting the Owlet came out with a cherry and started feeding on it , I felt a bit surprised and puzzled . But took the chance to photograph this behavior .
Framing was not ideal and truck loads of distraction are in the image ... not much I can do , albeit I already removed two larger elements in the LLC because they were blown due to their light color . So I decided to remove them ...
Albeit the surroundings which are not nice and pleasing ... it is all about the behavior in this image .

But feel free to share your thoughts of any nature ....

    Canon EOS R3
    EF 500 IS L II + 2x TC
    Tripod

    F 9 ; Iso 51200 ; 1/2000 sec ( would have gotten away with a slower SS )

Processed with ACR and PSCC 2023 ; cropped for comp from top and bottom to avoid or eliminate some distracting elements

    Thanks for watching and commenting

    Cheers Andreas

Great techs especially for it being so dark. I like the behavior you captured here Andreas. Don't see owls feeding on berries very often. I do wish you had a better surrounding for th image, but nothing you can do about it.

Hi Andreas, I can't make up my mind if it is a crab apple or possibly a rosehip, the latter though would have multiple seeds inside it.

The little owlet looks really good - very well detailed and noise free..... unfortunately the background kills it for me though the diet item does make a good discussion point.

Thanks Kurt and Jon for your feedback , much appreciated .

@ Kurt ... i am with you about the not ideal setting , but no way to avoid this and the special behavior does overcome that for me .... maybe down to personal emotions

@ Jon ... as it is about the behavior the BG does not kill it for me personally , but fully understand your perspective as a neutral viewer . The " food " is one hundred percent a cherry , as there are many cherry trees on the property and in a wider circle not a single crab apple nor a reship . The artificial nesting side is actually in a old cherry tree

    Cheers Andreas
