I like this one Steve. The rain adds to the image. Nice perch and the dark BG shows the dreich weather conditions at the time. Getting the good detail at 1/60 wouldn't have been easy, but it looks fine, as they are nearly always 'on the move'. Those wee feet hanging over the perch grab my attention, they look so good. Nice feather detail on the bird with a good HA.

Thanks Will, again just trying to perhaps inspire folk to shoot in the rain, rarely do we see rain images. Obviously you do need to be careful with the kit, but most are now water sealed, or get a rain cover. Plus you do need to lock the kit down and minimise movement/camera shake, all easily doable.

In all honesty the file has too pitfalls, whites on the neck have no data, blown, because of a camera issue, now resolved. Plus the subject factional moved, so for me it’s not 100% pin sharp, but the capture hopefully highlighted the biblical rain on that day.

Not so fussed n the perch Steve, maybe 2/3 below the break could be cropped and would reduce the vertical pano look of the crop.
Otherwise, good shot of the bird.

Hi Steve, really like the image. The streaks of rains adds another dimension to the image. As always techs spot on. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Steve ... nicely done with the rain streaks , always wanted to get something like this with different subjects . But never felt satisfied with the results ...
Perch is what it is and the subject looks good for the most part , but the white blown patch would be a reason to delete it .

Very good frame overall with the HL flaw .... that kills it for me.

Wondering what issue caused the failure ??

Wonderful Image Steve. I know your not happy with the blown whites but the rain streaks makes up for it. Just love the rain. TFS

Colin I wanted more of a vertical format to be in keeping with the streaks of rain, but also if you crop too much off the perch it will get too close to the trim and give the impression of slipping out of frame.

Andreas you are missing the point, Kevin gets it. Rarely are images posted in rain, heavy rain in this instance, but someone might wish to try doing the same after seeing this????????

Steve ... no not missing any point , just have the freedom to have my own valid point . Regardless of the lovely captured rain fall ....

Wonder if we now become flooded .... with rainy images after your posting ??!! We will see ....

Hope you show more of yours , as I do like the mood . Sadly my trials of this theme are not as good as this one , at least on the rain front .

    Cheers Andreas

    Dear Steve,

Love the mood of this image and rain droplets. Dramatic background, subject is prominent in its spot, lovely colours. I like the pose, and those 'wee feet' - as Will described them - grab my attention as well.

Your recent images increase my desire to experiment more and I hope to have some opportunities during the Kruger trip. Thank you so much for sharing

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

I like it a lot but for the vertical signature that IMO ruins the image by dragging the viewer's eye.
