    Default Loon in Iceland

Shot this Red - throated Loon on my recent trip to Iceland. Originally had started with a 2x converter. As the loons got closer I switched to a 1.4 and then they got too close and wish I had just been at 600mm. They were quite inquisitive. At this point I was in the water and too hard to get back
and take the converter off. As I didn't want to scare them as I had other photographers close by. Shot from a tripod and gimbal. Processed with Dpp 4,Topaz and Photoshop. Comments and critiques appreciated.

Hi Kevin, very nice behavioural aspect, lovely colours and detail, adding Midtone Curves adjustment with a Blend mode just adds a bit more pop. Obviously this can be tempered by reducing the opacity. Personally I'm not a great lover of truncated subjects, but that's just me. At ISO 500 unless badly exposed, using Topaz DN is not good practice, seriously you just don't need it Kevin at such low ISO's

Oh boy this is beautiful. I'm a fan of tighter portraits like this, and this one is no exception. I love the fine detail on the head. Open bill and tongue are great. So is the undulating water. surface..and low angle of course. One of your stronger offerings in my opinion.

Hi Kevin .. a very cool frame well executed .
Superb to see the tongue so present in the open beak .
Love the contrasting colors of subject and surroundings .
Subject looks good in terms of tone , detail and sharpness ....
Would agree that the use of any NR is not really doing any good to the image ... IMHO . At the used settings .

Very nice work Kevin. and TFS

Love it....I agree with Dan that this is one of your best. Beautiful detail you captured on the bird and the colours look spot on. Open bill showing the tongue takes it up a notch. Great POV. The beautiful red eye draws my attention. Nice one Kevin. We can't get this close to these birds here in Scotland, I need to go to Iceland .

    Well done.

Kevin, when I saw this on FB it was striking. But seeing it here in more detail and larger res is just fantastic.

The close-up of a lesser seen species, with that super low perspective on the mild blue.... and the call, with such detail. Yeah so sweet.

Love the light angle and framing too. Altogether a peach!

I knew you picked a great spot! You did better than me: I dropped a TC in the water! But after the hair dryer/pillowcase trick, it has been working. Love the super-low perspective and the colors.
