Default Little Owl IX ( juv)

Hi folks ... the juvenile LO are still around , at least two of the three .
They are doing well , but are not as predictable as the female was .... so a lot of trial and error is involved when trying to shoot them .
They do still hang around the ugly pile of wooden boards for the most time or fly all ,over the place ... so difficult to find the right spot for my camochair .
By pure luck this guy decided to catch a worm right in front of me .... wondering how they do find them in the lawn .
I just enjoyed the short shooting option .... most of the images were unusable as they do seem to have the eyes closed during the swallowing process . But was great fun to see the fight with the worm .
Today I tried to attract them with worms provided by me in a plastic box .... partial successful , as they must learn to see the worms in the box . One was successful , but I made mistake that I placed a stone in the box and the worms were hiding under the stone after all . Had to use the stone to keep the box from turning when they do land on the rim of the box . Have to find another solution .... and I have to keep the soil level lower in the box . The worms are bought in a fisherman shop .
So I hope to get them used to the box and can direct them somehow to a more open space for flight shots when they approach the box .... or get them running on the ground , I will see .
Have not seen the parents for weeks now .

Very nice. I love the low angle, flower setting, and of course the juicy curling treat. I'd be tempted to eliminate the yellow streak at bottom (touching the "wildpix"), but all else is good.

For me this would be a dream shot! To get a low angled image of a Little Owl eating a worm would be really quite an achievement. Image looks very natural and the setting couldn't be better.

The Owlets are great fun, nice detail and overall colour, a tad more below would help IMHO. If this is from a sequence then you might decide to use another eye from a previous frame so the nictitating membrane isn't visible. They love worms for sure, but for me its spotlessly clean, worms have some debris on them usually.

Just a super LO pic Andreas. Great details on the owl and love the summer green and some flowers adds a nice touch. Bonus with the worm. TFS

Thanks folks for your kind comments , much appreciated .

@ Dan ... the yellow streak does not bother me as it does break the continuous green color and is a slight variation which I prefer over a too sterile color look .

@ Steve ... i do agree about the FG , it happened quickly and I overlooked the tightness at the bottom . Worm is a natural catch of the little guy , not provided by me .... it seems that it is not always the case that the worms are dirty . After that I was thinking about getting me worms for them ... Regarding the eye , that is over my ethics .... apart from the fact that there is none of the frames with the eye fully open .

    Cheers Andreas
