William nice wing flap and you brought out the details. I was also shooting these in Iceland a few weeks ago and noticed they aren't all black but have some brown tones. The flowers in the background add a nice touch. TFS

    Will:

Excellent pose, feather details/exposure, strong sense of the surrounding environment plus the pop of color from the flowers.
Personal taste, but I might consider toning down the saturation of the yellow by the head. Its proximity to the head tends to pull my attention away from the face.

    Cheers

Hi Will, very nice, love the fact the wings are out and you can see all that gorgeous plumage.

I'm still away and viewing on the MBP, but I was wondering if you could go a bit more in the punch off it all, but taking Randy's point and just lower the yellow in the BKG. With brighter whites, the pinker flowers and the grass having a bit more tonal range it just elevates it, IMHO.

BTW popped up last Wednesday to see what the Grouse were doing before the 'Glorious 12th', think the beaters have driven them up to the respective bunkers for the 12th, as there was hardly any around.

Hi Will ... bit late to the commenting party , but I would not hold back my congrats to a pleasing shot of this species .
Lovely setting and the stretched pose with the open wings does look oh so nice !!!
The bird does look great in terms of fine plumage details and you handled the tones very well .... very conservative , so I think there is room for a touch more Oomph . Think you can go for a bit more tonal and color depth ... but " one " at a time , not globally . Just my take

Nice work Will and TFS Andreas

Apart from thinking it could use more saturation (but not on the bird), I think this is great! Lovely setting, and of course the wing flap takes it a notch higher. Nicely done!
