Kevin:
The puffin looks great, with nice detail. I like the concept of the foreground, but I that there is so much of it that it somewhat overpowers the subject. Perhaps crop up some from the bottom, and tone down the brightest area around your signature, so that it is less eye pulling.
I suspect you darkened the pupil, not the iris, but perhaps you did both?
Keep the puffins coming.
Cheers
Randy

Thanks Randy ,I agree with the yellow. No I darkened only the Iris. For what ever reason it was really light or translucent. First time I have ever had that.
Kevin: very interesting about the iris vs. the pupil. I don't know puffins well enough to have a good feel for their normal look, will have to check around.
Cheers

Hi Kevin, why does the face carry so much Blue, compared to the chest????? It looks like the BKG blue is across the head?

Not so sure its blue Steve it is the shadow side. I was not on sun angle.
Hi Kevin, if it was the shadow side and and you had the side of the chest too, then the white would also carry to the same degree of colouration IMHO.Not so sure its blue Steve it is the shadow side. I was not on sun angle.
If I adjust the Blue & Purple it reduces, if I take an RGB value reading in the lower white of the face in PS it's 168R, 158G, 186B which indicates my initial thoughts, but the chest is far better? Anyway just an observation, hope you had a cracking trip.![]()

Hi Kevin ... I quite like the shot as presented in general . I am ok with the yellow FG , but would raise the same question as Steve in terms of the blues .
With a a different color approach I think it would work better .

I can see why you did what you did with the crop -- you wanted to keep that brightest bit of yellow at lower right -- but the bird feels like an afterthought since it's crammed up against the left side of the frame. Beyond addressing the blue cast which others have noted, I could see losing some at bottom right and centering the bird a bit more. I think that would leave you with a decent amount of blur/bokeh while balancing the frame and giving the subject more deliberate presence.
