This common loon was imaged this morning. It was dark, sun had not crested the tree line. They had just surfaced and the head was nicely decorated with drops.
I used a touch of fill flash with the better beamer, low power.
Z9 800PF. 1/800s f/6.3. ISO 3200.
Post: LRCC and PS beta. Modest crop for comp. Cleaned up some water spots. The pupils were darkened to replace the flash effect. The faint browns on the breast are from the tannins in the water.
Advice and comments always appreciated.

I love it when that streaking happens on loons' heads! That one larger hanging drop looks great as well. Nice low angle. As posted it looks like an additional round of sharpening would be beneficial for web posing, but I have no doubt the original file is tack sharp.
Thanks guys for your input.
Daniel, I will tweak it a bit more in the sharpening department. I usually try to error on less rather than more sharpening, but perhaps I errored to far this time!
I went back and added a bit more sharpening on this one. It is quite noticeable that the posted image (both of them) don't look as sharp as the exact same image on my computer.
Cheers
Randy

This is a really sweet image. The small drops on the head are good, but the big drop is fantastic. The add'l sharpening was a good idea. My question - do you have the rest of the reflection? Because a 4x5 vertical which included that would be off the charts!
I do have the complete reflection, but because of the low shooting angle, it is not a great reflection. That is why I cropped it originally. What do you think of the vertical version?
