Jon, did you say this was your new garden, because it appears like farmers stubble after the combine has been over it.

Sharp and certainly a funky pose for sure. My only comment would be, not enough FG for the WP to land in, plus I would burn the FG back a bit, just how I perceive stuff.

Only just been able to cut the grass, it was a bit more than knee high, it is effectively a stubble field, been in two minds to as the farmer to let his cows in!
Your two suggestions are good, I'll bare in mind for next post.
The background is darkened, there's a big difference in brightness on the subject and background, the latter has been darkened and the former brightened, I put a lot of colour into the woodpecker is was dull as ditchwater, I was concerned I might have overdone it a bit, the grasses were very yellow in the raw file.

A controlled 'burn' Jon, as per Grouse, promotes new growth.

Light gets lighter as it recedes.

So why push it, it's like a Gold/Lime Green plumage, if it's flat, its flat so you wouldn't get Saturated colours????

    Hello Jon,

Certainly a fun shot and I like those little feet about to touch the ground, bird is cute

Techs look good and subject is sharp with nice detail. Hmmm...haven't seen this character in real life so I'll refrain from commenting on colours

Framing about right ...although I do agree with Steve, a bit more foreground would have been great.

Hope you new garden gives you lots of joy and attract lots of birds and wildlife, I look forward to see more images

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hey Jon ... awesome pose you got with him . Would have been so cool in portrait orientation . Looks a bit worn out ... the WP . Is it a youngster from last year ? As the plumage looks not fully developed .
Colors matter of taste , leave that to you .
    Nonetheless a cool shot !!!!

Hi Jon, amazing pose you have captured, not sure if it is running or jumping. The post-processing looks good, I am not familiar with the bird so cannot comment on the color. I like the image, thank you for sharing.

Well captured John...Great POV. Nice detail and HA on the bird..Very rarely seen up here now. Years ago I had them on the patio eating ants.
