Hi Jon, the colour palette works, even to the point of the the colour of the old apple branch (?). Like the inverted wing tips and you do get the sense of 'Take-Off'.

Just throwing this into the mix, all the colours are 'balanced' in terms of Hues/Saturation, so to add a bit more separation, how about having a light backdrop and loose the tip of the branch. Nothing radical, just a suggestion...

Jonathan, to get this photo not only depicts great skill and timing by the man with the gear, it also says something about the gear! Many times, lift off shots coming at the camera don't hold focus so good going there!

Nice and clean backdrop compliments a colorful subject well. The character on the branch helps beat the dead twig look.

A more early morning/late day light could have helped a touch but a pleasing take off frame all around. PS - I do like the rich colors in your OP versus the 'lifted' contrast one

This is such a lovely frame, Jon. Love the take-off pose from the bird, head angle is great, very nice wing position. Superb colours and neat background, great composition.
