OK, for a change the light was there, but almost bordering on to bright, which meant, dealing back to retain tone in the white of the nape of the neck, creating an almost black backdrop. Yes this was then pushed a bit more in PP, as the original looked a dark/mottled in appearance. Interesting that in Raw Digger, if I had shot at zero that would have been correct and the whites would just be there, easily adjusted in PP.

Not fussed about the slight fuzzy lichen at the foot of the perch, for me its all about the subject.

The 100-500 is absolutely pin sharp, retains awesome detail resulting in minimal PP and sharpening.

Hi Steve, just about perfect. I think your best of the Kingfishers. Lovely colors, nice head angle, the dark background makes the bird stand out. I shoot many white birds in Florida. I used to go to minus on the EV to control the whites. I now raise the shutter speed, it seems to work better to control the light. Nice image, thank you for sharing.

Cheers Joe, it’s whatever works for folk.

If it’s slight blinkies I know it’s all there, just a bit if PP and the JPEG the camera creates/generates for you on the back of the screen isn’t that faithful. As I said, Raw Digger was right on the exposure, something I have been saying for a long time, that what your camera/you think, you will be under exposing most of the time.

A few more still to come, but again… different.

Hey Steve, the drama is great and indeed, super sharp. I don't run my 100-500 often but it's reliable as the sun when I do.

There is some very odd haloing happening on my screen. It is all around the subject and a big blotch on the left side of the image?

Super shot wonderful colours, pin sharp where necessary, the dark background looks good (usually I don't like them).

No idea Brian, prints out fine. Unless you have fallen into the trap of going with a 4k monitor which is overkill, great for video work because they are is high res and ultra sharp, but it's not needed for images.

Could say Brian in all honesty, it's not showing on my two Eizo and as I say, prints fine. It's just a personal thing with me, I just don't see the point of 4k for Social media, even for doing prints and output for Media, but video work its awesome, just my take.

Hi Steve ... the KF looks very stunning in terms of detail , sharpness and tone . The sun brought out some nice colors ...
    Pose is nice

Personal taste , but the black BG is a killer for me and I do think the fuzzy perch is a bit too dominant albeit not as " bad " as the BG . I would have preferred a dark mottled BG .

    Brian i am a happy 4k user , but can't see a halo
