One of the most beautiful songs of the North American forests. The background here is a vernal pool, created by melted snow, and I was pointing down towards it. The wind hitting the surface created these subtle variations and striations, which I thought looked pretty neat. Subject attracted to natural perch via audio.

Canon R6 + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/200s., f/5.6, ISO 3200, natural light, handheld, FF, removed bluish cast to the white feathers via hue/saturation, cleaned up the eye reflection.

Love the setting and the pose. Colours entirely complimentary, I have not seen one of these before and I agree a beautiful bird. Super details.

Hi Dan, I agree with your write up, the background does look pretty neat. About as parallel to the bird as it gets, nice colors and feather detail. I like the image, thank you for sharing.
