This image was created on 11 April 2023 on the first morning of the second Fort DeSoto IPT. I used the handheld Sony FE 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS lens, the Sony FE 1.4x Teleconverter, and The One, the Sony Alpha 1 Mirrorless Digital Camera). The exposure was determined via Zebra technology with ISO on the Thumb Dial. ISO 640. 1/5000 sec. at f/4 (wide open) in Manual mode. When evaluated in RawDigger, the raw file exposure was determined to be dead-solid perfect. AWB at 8:09:27am on a sunny morning.

Hi Artie, I saw this image on your blog. I liked it then and like it now. Nice action, the close-up shows the squabble for the crab. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks Joe. He brought the crab for her. Just part of the process.

Hi Arthur cool shot , love the action .

Nice tones and colors , tight crop works well ....

Personal guessing ... a Topaz product was involved in the processing ??!!

    Artie:

Dramatic, tightly cropped, beautifully exposed. The expression on the right bird looks pretty fierce, even though it turns out he was giving her a present!

Love the behavior and action Artie! This is especially nice close up. Good comp, is this full frame? If so even more impressive!

Nice action, my only reservations are that there doesn't appear to be any details in the blacks and the bills, they appear slightly smooth or smudged. Given the SS I find this a little puzzling.

Works for me Artie. Great action, pose and details. I'm fine with the blacks, but noticing a slight white halo over both heads.

The huge crop held up well, all things considered. I know you do not normally like shadows on your subjects, but here I do feel the crab's shadow projected onto the tern's neck is pretty neat. Awesome action :-)

Thanks Arash. You are seeing the meat of the crab because it is a soft shell.
