Nice action shot really like the top bird with open wings showing some aggression with the open beak. Well done on the processing. Bottom blue tit holding on for life. Wish the Gold finch wasn't shadowed on the face. TFS

Action with bot birds in sharp focus is nothing to sneeze at. The shadowed face of the attacker is a big problem with this image. I must ask, What happened to the near (left) wing of the goldfinch? It looks like detail-less enamel???

Well captured Jon....1/4000 captured the Goldfinch well......The colours on the birds look good.....I agree with Artie re the wing on the Goldfinch....It looks out of place, with the rest of the image....I would also add some more canvas to the bottom, I feel the Bluetit is too close to edge.

Great action Jon! Not an easy capture at all. I do wish the shadow wasn't on the attacking bird though. Still nicely done!

The action and details are great, but I agree with the others about the shadowed face on the upper bird and the positioning of the tit (too close to edge). I don't mind the GF left wing as that's what we see when we look across layered feathers at only a slight angle.

Hi Jon ... very cool action shot with some not ideal elements , which you canīt control .
Light was very harsh and not ideal angle ...
The WB is a bit on the cool side , i would personally warm it up .
Agree that the left wing of the Gouldfinch looks weirdly soft ??? Maybe because you selectively lightened it .
Needs more room at the foot .

Anyhow very nice to see the action ..and this is happening so fast .

Thanks to all, I agree entirely with your comments, I will get the light on the face next time. Regards the left forewing - no idea I have not processed or done anything different to usual, in fact very little processing at all, I guess it is a mixture of subject movement and light angle.
The next thing I have in mind is Goldfinches in flight contra jour, the wings look pretty fantastic under these circumstances. I can't claim any originality in this pursuit, Andy Rouse has done it previously.
The timing for these shots?? Well, as I said previously - no real skill involved, Procapture does it, 50fps raw capture with bird detction AF, the skill comes in having the camera settings correctly preset so that at the flick of a button Bob's your uncle.... but again once you have done it the camera remembers.
