    Default Boat-tailed Grackle (Florida)

Perched female, in between bouts of hawking insects.

Probably could have stopped down for more DOF on the perch, but I had only a moment and was more intent on flight images.

This species doesn't get a lot of lens love, so I'm happy to give the females some screen time across the last few posts.

Perfect always works. I see no need to stop down. Even if you went to f/16 the tip of the perch would likely be o-o-f.

Super shot, my reaction was similar to Artie's, it's all about the bird in this case, the perch is inconsequential because it is relatively fine. Super tonal detail, the eye looks very good indeed.

This is very nice Dorian....The pose, colours and detail on the bird are really fab....It all fits together perfectly here....Nothing I would change....Very well done.

This really pops against that bright green BG Dorian! I agree with Artie, I don't think you could have got that entire perch in focus even at f/11

Hi Dorian .... a real cracker , all does work well for me .
The subject does look superb !!!
But the plain smooth BG is boring for me , i would prefer a mottled BG with some tonal / variations ... personal taste .

Thanks for posting images of this species Dorian! I love the common and "plain" birds and do not hesitate to point my lens at them. I'm digging the blue iridescence on the upper back.
