Hi folks ... two are better than one ?
I got lucky at times getting both KF`s on the perch
The female was quite aggressive and dominant , so they did not sit very long together on the perch .
And never in the same focal plane .... for sure due to the position of the perch , but it was impossible to choose a perch that was parallel to the camera due to the structure of the location
Canon EOS 1Dx III
EF 200 - 400 IS L at 286 mm
Tripod
F 5,6 ; Iso 10.000 ; 1/1000 sec ( even f 11 would have not brought the female into focus )
Processed with Capture One and PSCC 2023 ; cropped to 80 % of FF ; little gardening in BG and on the perch
Thanks for watching and commenting to my previous postings
Love the moment you captured here Andreas! I really like the behavior you captured here, but unfortunately the female being that much OOF detracts more than adds for my personal taste. I might very well be in the minority there. I find myself drawn more to her because of the catch.
Sorry I agree with Kurt, the soft felae detracts. I suppose you had good reason to focus on the male but I think under thos circumstances I would have focussed on the female because she has the fish.
Just getting both on the same perch was exciting yea too bad about the female being out of focus. Nothing you could do and your right f/11 wouldn't have helped. For me I would have picked the bird with the best HA, Female looking away wouldn't have made the image any stronger IMO Still a neat image. Details look great. TFS
Thanks folks for your comments , much appreciated .
For sure not the optimal output in terms of positioning for the subjects .... it is not possible to get both in focus , and I was concentrating in the male while shooting . As the male is closer to the viewer ....
And I would totally agree with Kevin .... the female has the fish but is facing away , if I would have chosen the female as the focus point you would have been complaining about the head angle .
So for me it was the best possible option in that scene .
Great image with two birds, but I -- like Jonathan suggested -- would have focused on the bird with the fish. The story would have worked better with the fishless/OOF bird gazing on the other's meal.
That's a tough ask in the moment, and this frame is still pretty cool. Processing looks great, as usual.
Thanks Dorian .... not sure if I would have been fast enough to jump with the focal point to the female . AS said I was on the male and the female just came up .... like most of the times facing away from me .
But it does not matter , as could not change anything afterwards .... and all happens so quick , many times too quick for my brain . And I am more than ok with the shot , for the moment .
