    Default European Kingfisher (M) I

Hi folks .... here is KF mania again
Had two fantastic last sessions for this winter season , with lots of technical faults from my side and lots of stuff learned when it comes to KF shooting .
I got lucky with a male lurking around the spot , but the female was chasing the male for the most time .
Sadly the weather was not on my side .... dark heavy clouds covering the sky , so I had to work with high iso all the time .
Was not really successful with the diving action , but later more of that with some " crappy " images and the details why I failed most of the times .

For the start just the male hovering ( never seen that before ) of this species and only the male showed that behavior .

It was so much fun with lots of action from both individuals , well worth the money spend .... just for the experience .

    Canon EOS 1Dx III
    EF 200 - 400 IS L at 400 mm
    Tripod
Cropped to 60 % of FF

    F 6,3 ; Iso 5000 ; 1/2000 sec

Processed with DPP 4 and PSCC 2023 ; removed the perch from ULC

Thanks for watching and commenting to my previous postings

    Cheers Andreas

One of if not the best in my opinion. Colours are bang on super detail - I have to admit I had not appreciated the fact that the upper mandible is shorter than the lower. Maybe a little noise in the fanned out primaries but no big deal - excellent shot

Nice, natural looking colours, I love seeing them hover. Really liking the bit of wing motion

That's some serious action. Woulda thought you woulda needed something faster than 1/2000, but it worked perfectly here. Setting/BG is great, and I love the composition. I'm sure I missed a few while I was away
but this is probably my favorite KF frame you've posted.
