This trumpeter was captured this morning in SW Michigan. A nice collection of these free ranging birds showed up and were chasing each other around the lake.

    Z9. 800 PF. f/6.3. 1/2000s, ISO 360. Hand held.

Post: Small crop from left and top. Added a sliver of canvas to right.

I really liked the dappled reflections under the wings. It was really bright and these reflections were coming up off the turbulent water.

    Advice and comments always appreciated.

    Cheers

Great timing on your part. The action and splash super. Unfortunately, I'm really missing the bird's neck because it would help guide our attention to the face.

I'm usually not one for these sorts of reflections in my won shots, but I understand their attraction in this instance.

Technically, I would have gone faster than 1/2000 (though the result seems pretty sharp as is.

I like it - especially the left wing near the water surface, the underwing reflections are attractive. Not sure about the bill - does it look rather blue?

    Thanks guys:

I appreciate your input. I usually shoot swans at 1/2500s or above for inflight images, but had been working a swimming bird when I heard the commotion and turned to see this one barreling down on me.
Jon: good observation on the blue bill. I didn't do anything to it, but will go back and clean that up.

    Thanks!

Hi Randy a very cool dynamic shot .... !!!
All works for me here , including the fancy reflections in the underwings .
HL are partially clipped .... I do find the blues in the beak quite normal as the wet beak das reflect the sky ... so no cast , so to speak . But I might reduce the blues a bit but removing them .
    Just my take .

Just for the sake of interest , where was the focal point ?? AS there is a strong looking sharpening halo around the beak

My favorite part here is the water reflecting under the wings and belly! We can really feel the power of this bird, and I also love the water splashes going out of dof range. Nice one Randy, very appealing frame!
