Here a photo of another species I've photographed at Helgoland and this is the reason why I went there the Gannet.
made this picture in the late eveninglight.

So elegant... The bird AND the image. The light is amazing. Looks very nice as is with the feather detail on his back... Maybe this would lend itself to a vertical crop as well?

Beautiful job Lesley! You couldn't ask for nice light on the bird, and it works well against the dark BG. I would either go vertical here or else move the bird a little to the right in the frame. We've seen a lot of these birds of late, but this is an original 'interpretation.' Thanks for posting!

This is really nice! I like the soft colors and the sweet light. The dark BG works well to make the bird stand out.

I think it is perfect. The golden light and the dark bg makes this one. Great eye contact and the slightly downward head angle are sweet. The light to dark hues of milky browns screams out of this world. Frame it and hang it.

Fantastic composition and close up pose. The lighting is soft and creamy. I like the rich white tones, and the eye says it all...big congrats...

The dark BG really sets off the bird and lighting in a dramatically beautiful way.

I agree with the vertical crop suggestion from above. I think you nailed the light incredibly well in your image. :) Your subject is abslutely perfectly posed.

Outstanding gannet image! I love the light against the black BG. Surprised no one mentioned though, it would be very useful to see the technical information for the image ("techs"). You have a very sharp image with ample depth of field (enough to almost get the whole bill and head on focus), yet you were shooting in relatively low light (I assume), and there is no visible noise in the image! How did you do this??? In general for any image posted- and this one in particular- it is more than useful to have the techs as well.

Great light, mood, details and even though I usually don't like dark BGs, it works extremely well here. And yes, please do post the techs.
