Default European Kingfisher IV ... Take off

Hi folks continuing with the KF lady
I have never tried before this kind of shot ... and I tried different methods with and without AF , I have to say at least for me very difficult exercise .
None of the methods worked perfectly ... but was great fun with tons of misfocused images . Just to get the start of the KF is already difficult , maybe I am already to old ... to react in a split second when the lady took the dive . But I will try again if possible .
Upper part is snow as it snowed after a while , the mid and lower part is the frozen pond .

    F 5,6 ; Iso 12800 ; 1/2000 sec ( I know too slow , but light was not great as said )

Thanks for looking and commenting to my previous postings

Not a bad attempt Andreas! Take off shots in general are not easy IMO. It definitely takes timing and understanding of what the birds actions are just prior to take off so you can get the timing right. I do see a bit of motion blur so you are right 1/2000 just isn't fast enough. I also think the horizon placement is a bit unfortunate. But still a great effort and at 12,800 looking pretty **** good.

You did as well as you could have given the light. It sounds like this hide is a long drive - is there any way to avoid making the trip on a crappy day or do you have to book the hide well in advance and
    hope the weather cooperates?

Sounds again like you had tons fun there. This is an "almost", with a bit too much subject movement apparent on the face area. Good colours and crop, but hope you came away with some good experiences to tweak things around next time!

Thanks folks for your feedback , much appreciated .

Kurt .. the horizon is the edge of the pond , no chance to avoid it . No change of shooting angle possible and the BG is quite busy if I would have gone lower .

Dan .... I fully agree that it is an almost , just stuck with the situation ... still plenty of fun .

Dorian ... yes a long drive , will give it another shot tomorrow ... need to book the hide in advance and it is only one spot per day !!! But weather forecast is better than previous time .

    Cheers Andreas
