This is one from the set up on Sunday......I do wish that the bird's tail was this side of the perch, but maybe that's asking too much for this type of shot.....I did manage a few, with some at f/6.3 where the feet are in focus.....I liked the flight pose on this one....Gimbal Head....ACR, Topaz DN, and PS.

This is nice Will more to my liking on the perch setup. Realistic with the leaves. Very nice on the exposure and details of the bird. I agree with your assessment of the tail. Hard to get perfect. TFS

This is a fine effort, Will. Exposure on the bird looks perfect and you show the colors on the back beautifully. Head angle is awesome. Yeah, it woulda been nice to have the tail on this side of the perch, but that's pretty minor.
You did a good job setting this up.

nice dynamic image William, nice BG and wing position bummer about the branch but else is good. on my screen the image is a bit dull and muted a small contrast bump can pay dividends

Hi Will ... a very well executed image when the Chaffinch takes flight !!!
Overall very nicely processed , with enough tones /contrast for my taste .
Here and there you have missed some noise .... just a matter of masking .

    Well done Will and ...

Great wing position and timing! Details also look great! Also wish the tail wasn't behind the perch and wish the feet were in focus as well, but looks like you were pretty limited with light already being at ISO 5000 so stopping down may not have been an option. Hope to see more!

Super nice, and a great view of the colours and patterns on the plumage! Nice wings-down pose here. 1/5000th was just the ticket for freezing this songbird's take-off. The tail is what it is, but you forgot NR in the small gap between the leg and wing.

Excellent self-critique and excellent image. Do you use multiple back buttons for AF or do you keep things simple?

Thanks for that Artie......I keep things quite simple....AED and tracking on..most of the time, especially with fast flying shots...I use back buttons for focusing and to switch off tracking if needed(hardly ever). It works for me
