Default I believe I can Fly

Tern Chick First Flight - Nickerson Beach, Long Island NY

Got out for a few hours this morning and met a few of my NWPLI friends (Ed, Dustin and Bob) and Jodee from BPN (really nice gal, was a pleasure chatting!!).

This guy, one of the twins, was practicing takeoffs for a short while. Was fun to watch. I got a couple images for show and tell, nothing to write home about but one I will remember. Only 10 days ago was when I took the image below (my last post - Is my breath OK) and they were much smaller...my how we have grown!

    Nikon D2x, 600VR, x1.4, ISO 200, f8, 1/1000, Gitzo 3530LSV, Wimberley Head II

Hi George. Great balance between sharp head and OOF wings. I might boost saturation a bit, and I might also clean up the RUC. Thanks for posting!

I was out this morning George trying to get some cooperative fledglings but had no success I like the eye contact and wing position and the little bit of habitat in the shot. Well Done!!!!

Really like you got the bird seperated from the mess he has there.

Lessons learned about the "steps" rule - its amazing the difference what a few steps to the right or to the left can make :)

That said I did cut out a couple twiggies! ;)
This is just really a show and tell image so didn't go crazy in Photoshop.

Very cool capture of this flight training. I like the eye contact but find the shadow on the body a bit strong.

Love this one, George, and so glad that you captured it! That was a VERY COOL moment seeing this little guy test his wings! Wish I had the skill to do the same - mine are WAY OOF!!!:( Could have to do something with the fact that I was shooting in manual and didn't realize it  I NEVER shoot in manual. Don't know what happened there - note to self to ALWAYS check camera settings (more than once) before depressing the shutter button. Rookie error.

It was a pleasure seeing you yesterday, as well as Dustin, Ed, and Bob. Thanks for all of your help, suggestions, and for being so willing to share your expertise with a newbie like me.

By the way, I think you did a great with this foreground/background. Nickerson is tough on that account - so much low plant life and other stuff in the sand!

Love the sharpness and the leap. The stuff in the urhc needs to go and a bit more room in front would be a plus as the bird is centered.
