Egyptian Goose preening

Egyptian Goose preening in an old channel, taken towards the later part of the day. As we crossed the channel it meant the eye level dropped to provide a Lowe POV.

Colours and details look very good - especially in the dark plumage. The slightly busy background doesn't trouble me due to the pose and colours of the goose - this is where my attention is aimed.

Jon, its called reality , sadly the ratio of BKG to subject is too close, but this is Africa in real life and rarely do you get the immaculate backdrop, plus I had minutes to rattle off some frames as the other Land Cruiser wanted to cross. We were late and needed to be back by 7.00pm to meet guidelines.

I really like the 'unusual pose'......The feather detail and colours look real good....Good POV....Nice natural looking BG....which the bird stands out perfectly ...almost 3D look.....Definately different...Nice one Steve.

I think I will be able to meet Jon’s reservations with another image, but like you, it’s all about the feather detail IMHO. Keep an eye on things, R3/5 both were smoking and delivering some awesome stuff. Hope all is good with you.

Hi Steve ... nice prenning pose of the Goose and the shown fine details in the plumage are simply great .
I quite like the setting and i am ok with the BG .
Comp works well with the head facing to the empty space . Tones looking good .
Interestingly i am not liking your chosen WB along with it the colors .... all colors do look " dirty " with a yellow tinge . What was your thinking going the yellow route .... ??? Does not appear like a " yellow scene " from africa to me .

No yellow, that's how it was Andreas, there is a slight 'warmth perhaps', but check the whites...

Steve my initial thought was .... without checking any colors via eyedropper ... it is overall warm / yellow , than took it into PS to check the whites . And i felt right after reading the numbers ....
But is only a minor thing so i will leave it to you ,no big deal , i would just " correct " it if this was mine .
I found the colors cleaner when neutralizing the white feathers via a curve ( red channel as mask ) adjustment . This keeps the warmth to a large degree

I'm not a huge fan of the pose or setting, but the processing looks great (as usual). If the frame is yellow, it's so slightly so as to be easily ignored or overlooked.

R3 looks like an amazing tool, but my brand of photography demands the extra pixels the R5 offers. If I start spending more time in Africa, shooting big animals,
then I might consider the R3.
