I like the deer hind but there is something about the background, I am uncomfortable with. I feel it is somehow fuzzy and the inky black sky between the trees makes me think it is a little strange.

Something different and I like it. Works for me Andreas, I think you were seeking that 3D feel and achieved it, to some degree in camera but also in post-processing. The deer stands out exceptionally well and has great detail and sharpness, pose is nice too, good composition!

    Kind regards,

Thanks Jon , it is ok that you have reservations about the BG .... but no idea why you think the dark areas are sky , i am puzzled about your thoughts . It is just dark forest ....
FG and BG has been darkened in post , nothing fancy done .... just pulled the curve down through a gradient mask .

    Cheers Andreas

No need to be troubled about my thoughts! I regarded the dark areas as nothing other than distant dark space.

    Kind regards,
Thanks Gabriela .... your thoughts are very very correct regarding my thoughts , as the original capture was quite flat in terms of tonal range .... glad you like it .
    Have a wonderful sunday .
Just got back from my Squirrels in slight snow .... nothing fancy though , just a bit of shooting them in snowy conditions .

    Cheers Andreas

Let us have some squirrels, Boetie.

Around here I guess not much happening at the moment, extremely hot and animals must be hiding in deep shade. Some rain (or snow!) would be nice but not likely to happen. We are considering a game drive later this afternoon but do not think we'll come back with many images

    Enjoy the afternoon!

    Kind regards,
