Within a few km., of my house is a spot where Sandhills regularily breed. They currently have large young which make for some interesting family group shots.

This adult was foraging for insects in the grass.

    Canon 40D, 500mm, Fullframe, f/8, 1/640sec. Fullframe

Unfortuntly it has lost a bit to the posting gudelines.

Great setting, soft light and the snack adds to it. I would have preferred a vertical composition. That way you would not have clipped the legs. Keep them coming!

Nice catch Harold, the snail is a real plus!

Maybe a vertical would work here as well, the blue flowers are a little distracting in this. Normally I like the flowers but maybe it's because they are right in front of the bird. The low yellow flowers are a keeper!

Really nicely timed Harold! Like it a lot, except that I too would prefer a vertical crop. Thanks for posting!

Nice snail. Image looks a bit dark. And you have stuffed a long tall bird into a HORZ frame; a VERT would have been better here (though I do like the flower on the right frame edge...)

Thanks everyone, good advice on going vertical (I have a few from the same session). Arthur mentioned the flowers on the right, and that was my reason, I wanted them in and forgot about presenting the main subject well.

Ah, you needed a shorter or zoom lens (or you needed to move well back) as cutting the flowers on the frame edge is a sin; you need to leave a border around all important elements of the COMP.
