AKA Australian White Ibis. Nicknamed because of their persistent foraging activities throughout the city parks and surrounds, consequently very grubby birds.
    My first shot for 2023.

Hi Colin. Happy new year to you and yours There's no issues getting heaps of shots of these birds...I've taken some up in the trees where they display lovely colouring under the wings. Despite the clarity and good head angle this one isn't working for me though, as I'm getting less fond of birds against a plain background. I'm also wondering if you've applied too much noise reduction as the bird seems to have a somewhat "smooth/plastic" appearance? The wing positions are not ideal for many people on this forum, but I'm ok with that here. How far away were you from the bird? just wondering why f10?

Paul, the 100-500 is f4.5 - 7.1 so f10 with a 1.4x. Yes it is a bit of a heavy crop and agree with the not ideal wing position.
I do have better shots of other birds with that combo, same day, which i will post later.
Yes these Bin Chickens aren't the nicest looking White Ibises.

    Hi Colin ....
this is a tough one to comment as not easy to find something positive purely from the technical side , may sound harsh , but i want to be honest .
I do like the flying pose , albeit the angle might be a bit steep for some ... and i would have taken the shot as well . The boxy crop is not ideal IMHO , the bird needs more room on both sides .... tones looking quite good though .
IQ is not that great due to the large crop , and the colors are looking somehow pale and washed out ... needing more selective color and WB work , matter of taste .

The combo is tough to work with .... F10 as the smallest aperture , one needs tons of light

You are too kind Andreas, agree it is a s**t shot. As for colors, not much to be had, they are not a pretty version of the species.
Having got that out of the way, 2023 can only be up from here!

Yeah, flight at f/10 in any light is tough. I don't have that lens but wouldn't plan on using it with the TC when/if I buy it. Besides the smeary head and neck, I think the overhead angle allows the underwing to dominate the image.
