    Taken today in Portland Oregon with his American wigeon traveling companions.
    Not extremely rare here but nice to find.
    D500, 500pf, f5.6, 1/3200, iso640

    **** - these can be tough to approach. Naked 500? Was this guy in a duck pond? That's the only way I've shot EUWI. Bow wave and associated shimmer is awesome. Orangey blob at top left and reflection above/behind beak are a bit distracting, but this is a great view of this uncommon bird (in the US anyway). Detail on face sucks us in. Exposure looks spot on.

    Dan, nice work capturing this guy. We don't get many down here.

    Lots of detail and as mentioned, nicely exposed.

    The debris just above the beak is interesting... maybe slightly distracting also. What was it?

    nice find Dan. never seen this bird before, BG a touch distracting but bird is perfect. looks like the local pond is still a good place up there....not many ducks here this year
