Taken yesterday morning at a local lake here in Dallas. I could've gone either way with the crop, but chose vertical as I thought it accentuated the downward movement of the landing. Wondering what yall think about that choice.
I am fine with the crop and I like the pose and the body and head angles. The whites look hot and the upper part of the BKGR is quite distracting. Waiting an instant would have placed the bird completely against a nice blue BKGR and then it would have been easy to smooth out the background and eliminate the problematic light and dark areas.

Thank you for commenting Artie.... I've adjusted the highlights a bit here. Of course there's not much I can do about the upper BG at this point, but I tried to get rid of the bright spots. I'm getting better at thinking about BG consideration in static shots, but things still happen too fast for me with moving targets, I'm not quite able to get all the pieces in the right place yet.
I'm workin' on it though....
Thanks again!
Steve
PS... There was a wonderful Galapagos special on TV last night in HD. Must've been an awesome trip.

I agree with the above comments and want to ad that I too, love the pose and moment you've captured! Congratulations! Ps: The re-post looks much better indeed!
Judylynn, Ramon, James... Thank you for looking and taking the time to comment! It's a such a treat to have folks objectively look at ones work and offer their feedback. I noticed the bright stuff in the BG at first, but I was too busy looking at the bird to realize how much it affected the overall image.
