This Tawny Owl flew into a set up I was at, which I wasn't expecting, as they are nocturnal....I liked the pose here, as it showed the feather detail along the back of the owl, and just enough head turn.... It was raining, hence the SS, but, not enough rain in the frame, to have an impact, and I removed the few rain streaks that were present....Cropped for comp, this being about 80% of the original....I would have liked more room at the bottom, to put the bird higher in the frame.....Bare lens would have been better, I had been photographing smaller woodland birds with the 1.4 attached......Gimbal Head attached to a plate...ACR, Topaz DN and PS.

Will: Soft light , nice details on the back, soft background. The facial disk looks a tiny bit scrunchy, but I don't know this bird. It may be a side effect the rain, causing wet, slightly clumped feathers. A bit more depth of field if possible to cover the pose completely would have been nice, but it is effective as presented.
Agree about a bit more room below, but the gaze direction helps mitigate that for me.

    Cheers

Nice shot but it looks over-sharpened to me especially on the facial disk and shoulders.

Love the head turn and backside pose! I agree about the crunchiness of the head. Also wish you had a bit more room both top and bottom. Still nicely captured

The back view isn't ideal, but the symmetry of the back feathers is really cool. The sideways gaze it tough, particularly since the beak doesn't stand out. I agree that the facial discs look crunchy, perhaps from over sharpening. Background is really dreamy.

Looks like things have stepped up a gear now with some changes in PP. main issue covered in above feedback.

This is why you use the screen to review the image for comp, distracting elements in the BKG, clipping, never, EVER for colour.

Hi Wil, beautiful owl, really nice back view. I agree with the comments others have made regarding the face appearing scrunchy. Been there done that getting stuck with the 1.4 on when I wished it wasn't with no time to remove it. Nice image, thank you for sharing.
