Hand-held, Nikon D80, Tamron 17-50 @ 34mm, f/4, 1/60s, in shade near sundown. LR for greyscale conversion with color mixer, plus contrast and lighting adjustments
I love the varied shades of green that this variety has, and the great shades of grey it produces. I generally think black and white output for the hostas unless there is more going on than just the colors. I shot this during a "visual thinking exercise" -- otherwise known as take a few test shots of interesting subjects but do so quickly because I didn't spray with mosquito repellent so I'm just scouting some subjects with quick hand-held shots. So I know it's softer than I want, but I'd like some feedback before trying again, properly prepared with bug spray and a tripod.
Bruce, for a shoot and run, this is really nice! You have taken out the color leaving the viewer to go looking for something else and that is pattern, pattern, pattern! The leaves have a beautiful shape and lots of good tones throughout. The only thing that catches my eye is the one torn leaf...other than that, it just flows on and on...
Understand the hurry !!!! No bug juice can be a problem !!!!
I think these images depend on careful set up and adequate dof Near sundown but lots of contrast still Might be able to duplicate the layer and multiply for getting detail in the white areas !!!
