    Default Female Belted Kingfisher

Not the best quality in that I had lowered my shutter speed to work on the male, but she choose to fly right into the frame as I held the shutter down to shoot the male. Pure luck to catch the female in this position. After this happened I asked myself, did that really happen and did I get it. As I reviewed the burst from my A1, I could not keep the grin off my face. Getting Kingfishers has always been a challenge for me. They prefer to laugh vs. pose. Sony A1, 600mm f/4 GM plus 2X converter, 1/1000, f/8 (wide open), ISO 640. Hope you enjoy!

The image does have a fun, humorous feel to it with the one individual seemingly ignoring the loud incoming female. The subject movement is unfortunate though - 1/1000s. was just not fast enough (although you do mention you had just lowered it). Don't be scared to raise the ISO on these modern cameras, they handle it well both in-camera, and in post processing. Nice thin perch and good BG.

Yes unfortunate the out of focus bird. Love the green background colors and do push that ISO. TFS

Thanks for the look guys. The humor was what I liked best about the image. The female coming in with a yell and the male with his back to her. Yes, I agree it is soft and therefore a bit disappointing, especially considering I had just moved from 1/5000. I am still pleased that at least I got the capture. Again, appreciate the comments.

great action shot and you captured the moment but the slow ss spoiled they day. I am sure you will nail it next time. on my A1 I use manual exposure and never let SS drop below 1/3200 sec when working at 1200mm in fact 1/4000 sec most of the time....
