Hi folks ... thanks to Dorian , his great postings of this species remineded me that i have photographed them too .... many moons ago
So i went into my archive .... and was " shocked " how bad i was photographing these days . Not many keepers from todays perspective ... just part of my learming curve.
Image take back in 2005 ... one year after my move from analog to digital photography .

Check the techs i have used ....LOL , plus i used fillflash . Well good old days .... never got my head around this fill flash thingie .

Nevertheless i post this image , hope you do not mind .

    Canon EOS 1D MK II
    EF 500 IS L + 1,4 TC
    Tripod
    Fill flash

    F 5,6 ; ISO 50 ; 1/80 sec

Processed with DPP 4 and PSCC 2023 ; added a bit of canvas ; BG is the sunlit boulders .

Hey Andreas, neat little critter. I am sure you processed the image with you knowledge and experience now because it looks much better than you described finding it in your archives. Really nice look at this bird, I marvel at the claw part way up the birds right leg. The background appears the same as in one of Dorian's images. Whites and blacks look good. I never use flash so I cannot comment on that. Thank you for sharing.

Seems to me you were not that bad! If I was using flash in those days I would have probably done similar albeit with various shutter speeds up to 1/250sec..I note you used a tripod, I don't see an awful lot wrong with your settings.
Details and colours look good I think it's a keeper!

He he, once in a while I revisit my older images from when I started, and chuckle a bit - I an relate to the "not many keepers from today's perspective" comment :-) Fun to see the progress though. I suppose you cold have pushed the ISO just a bit more
