Default Sandwich Tern as Cruise Missile

    Attached Images Attached Images

This image was created on 10 October 2022 on the last morning of the second Fort DeSoto IPT. Working from the fishing pier, I used the handheld Sony FE 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS lens and The One, the Sony Alpha 1 Mirrorless Digital Camera). The exposure was determined via Zebra technology with ISO on the Thumb Dial. ISO 500. 1/5000 sec. at f/2.8 (wide open) in Manual mode. When evaluated in RawDigger, the raw file brightness was determined to be dead-solid perfect (ho hum). AWB at 9:40:08am on a then cloudy morning. Tracking: Zone AF-C with Bird Face/Eye detection enabled performed to perfection.

I can handhold the Sony 400mm f/f2.8 for about an hour for non-stop flight photography. Then, I need a break.

All comments are welcome and appreciated.

Very nice Artie.....Fab flight pose and HA. The slight look at the clouds in the BG makes a difference....Just wondering, if you have the pixels...maybe cropping some from the RHS.....I know what you mean about handholding....Not as easy when we get older.....

Thanks, Will. This is already a decent crop and I wanted to maintain the 3X2.

Hi Artie, a cruise missile indeed. You did well, I have yet to capture a tern diving. The pose, head angle and background all make for a nice image. Nice sharp image, thank you for sharing.

That's some serious action! About as dynamic a pose as one can hope to capture. Exposure and detail are great, and I like the wide-ish comp with space to the right.

Wish we could see a bit more of the far wing to strengthen the connection between it and the bird, but that's life. Frame looks a bit blue to me.

Artie, great job getting this handheld. You're not old, but you're older than many here and getting this shot is difficult for most half your age. BTW, if you can toss the football like I've seen you do, I know you can rock the 400 ;-)

All in all, a cool frame. I am not totally sure on the composition, but I do like pushing boundaries (no pun intended). As mentioned, a very dynamic pose and great look at the eye.

It might benefit from a little boost in warmth as some of the whites have a slightly blue hue from here.

    TFS.

Hi Arthur ... very cool pose you have captured , well done !!! Killer
Sky looks good with the some variations to break the monotony of a plain blue sky .
Personally i woukld go for portrait orientated comp ... but you seem to prefer the large dead space on RHS . Wonder what it is good for , from the aesthetic POV ??
Could go warmer in WB as the blue hue is quite prominent in the white plumage and the darker parts as well .
